Former govt minister Gemma Hussey dies at 86
Former minister and advocate for ladies’s rights Gemma Hussey has died on the age of 86.
Ms Hussey died following a brief sickness.
A former Positive Gael TD, she served as Minister for Training between 1982 and 1986 and subsequently held the Social Welfare and Labour portfolios.
She additionally served as authorities chief within the Seanad from 1981 to 1982.
Ms Hussey entered politics in 1977 after a profession in enterprise.
She chaired the Girls’s Political Affiliation within the Seventies and was dedicated to getting extra ladies taking part in politics and working for the Dáil.
She turned Positive Gael’s first spokesperson on Girls’s Affairs after initially sitting as an unbiased Senator.
In 1982 she turned the nation’s first feminine Minister for Training beneath the Positive Gael-Labour coalition authorities.
