‘Our beautiful Mam’ – Brendan Courtney pays tribute to his mother Nuala after her death

Brendan said his mother Nuala Courtney “passed peacefully” at 7.20am on Tuesday morning at Navan Road Community Unit nursing home.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beautiful Mam Nuala Courtney,” Brendan wrote.

She is survived by her daughters Suzanne and Deboragh, sons Brendan and Daniel, grandchildren Robert, Eoghan, William and Emily, siblings Áine, Collette, Maura, Sean, Brian and the late Kevin. She is predeceased by her husband Frank.

The funeral mass will take place at 11am on Saturday morning, December 21, in St Kilian’s Church, Kingswood.

It will be followed by a cremation service at 12.30pm in Newland’s Cross Crematorium.

Ms Courtney’s family wrote on RIP.ie: “She will be very sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.”

In recent years, Brendan Courtney has been open about his mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease and her time in the nursing home.

Many people paid tribute to the late Nuala Courtney, describing her as a “wonderful” and “beautiful” lady, the “brightest light”, and a “glamorous woman”.

“Deepest sympathy to the Courtney family on the loss of your beautiful and glamorous mother,” one person wrote.

Another mourner said: “My heartfelt sympathy to Brendan and all the family on the sad passing of your beautiful mother Nuala.”

“She always came across as such a wonderful lady,” they added.

“She was such a lovely woman, kind-hearted, and always smiling. She will be forever in our hearts,” another person said.

A different person wrote: “Nuala was a beautiful lady, always glamorous and full of chat and smiles.”

“Nuala was one of a kind, she was funny, loving, caring, compassionate and just an all-round wonderful lady,” another person said.
