At the height of his popularity, Dickie Rock was not just an incredible stage performer, he app­eared to exemplify a new way of life for the thousands of people who flocked to dance in the ballrooms all over the country in the early 1960s.

He was never a rebel like Elvis or The Beatles, but Dickie Rock and the Miami Showband were brash and exciting at a time when people wanted to cast off the austerity of De Valera’s Ireland and embrace the joys of pop music and jiving.
